"Grand Hotel" in Radomyshl

Radomyshl as a county town was quite developed and friendly to visitors. Quiet green resort town attracted vacationers, which could not but affect the development of infrastructure. Shops, restaurants, taverns, restaurants and of course hotelsgrewlikemushroomsin the city. At the beginning of the 20th century there were 4 hotels in the city. "Malynsky Rooms", "Berlin" which was later renamed "Marseille", the hotel "Russia" and the main and most fashionable "Grand Hotel".

It was located in the heart of the city on the VelykaZhytomyrska Street, and next to it there were fashionable "boutiques" with expensive clothes and a salon of women's hats from Warsaw. It was quite profitable, because local ladies who went shopping could dine in an expensive restaurant which was located on the ground floor of the hotel, and out-of-town ladies could shop in nearby stores. So, everything was convenient and accessible. The restaurant was considered to be the best in the city and not all segments of the population were able to get there. There was a certain struggle for the dominance between the "Grand Hotel" and the restaurant "Blue Bird", where the hotel definitely won. Lunches in the hotel restaurant were a mustfor officials and young ladies from "decent families". After all, the freshest and best products were delivered there. It is known that the hotel was supplied with Zelter water from Matkowski's pharmacy (mineral water from the Zelter spring discovered in Germany in the 16th century), as well as mineral and sweet waters of Radomyshl production.

Rooms for guests were located on the second floor. The owner of all this splendor was Adolf HenrikhovychTyfert, the same Tyfert who owned the Radomyshl brewery. Adolf Henrikhovych was of German descent. Having bought shares from the founders of the plant, the Albrecht brothers, he and his companion firmly rooted in the list of local elites. So the Grand Hotel was another good investment, like  the restaurant in Kocheriv, which also belonged to millionaire Tyfert. By the way, Adolf Henrikhovych lived not far from his property. His house still stands on VelykaZhytomyrska Street. Everything changed with the arrival of the new government to the city and to the country. According to the memories of a woman from Radomyshl, the “Grand Hotel”housed a "working class" that huddledtogether with large families in small rooms. The potbelly stove, where they warmed up, became especially vivid memories of thechildhood. The once beautiful room with white walls became smoky and gloomy, like all life of that period.

A little later «Grand-Hotel» finally returned his assignment. It began to serve as a hotelagain, and on the ground floor there was still a buffet, though not so chic and fashionable. Well, in the mid-60's the building of the most famous hotel in the city was demolished and an apartment building was built of such a fashionable then brick on that place. Nowadays people live in this house, there is a shop and a pharmacy, and only a few people remember that once there was a popular elite establishment with the proud name "Grand Hotel".
